Domenic Gatto serves as President and Chief Executive Officer of the Atlantic Express Transportation Corp., one of the largest bus and transportation companies in the United States. In 1972, the company ran just 16 routes. Today, Mr. Gatto oversees a corporation of more than 11,000 employees valued in the hundreds of millions of dollars. Under Domenic Gatto, the Atlantic Express Transportation Corp. pioneered transportation services for students with physical and mental challenges. In addition, Mr. Gatto expanded the company’s contracts to include school districts in California, Illinois, Massachusetts, Missouri, New Jersey, New York, and Pennsylvania. Atlantic Express now maintains a fleet of more than 5,500 vehicles.
In 2003, Domenic Gatto expanded his leadership horizons when he accepted the position of Partner and Chairman of the Eagle Oaks Golf and Country Club in Farmingdale, New Jersey. Mr. Gatto recognized the club’s potential as a profitable venture. Under his administration, the Eagle Oaks Golf and Country Club brought in revenues of $10 million in 2010, almost tripling its intake. In addition, the club serves another purpose for Mr. Gatto, namely as a vehicle to express his appreciation for the men and women in the armed services. In 2009, Domenic Gatto initiated Honor Day, which gives military personnel on leave from service in Iraq or Afghanistan the opportunity to enjoy a day off on the course. Honor Day was featured in a Fox News report in 2010.
As a young man, Domenic Gatto served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War. Wounded in the line of duty, Mr. Gatto received an honorable discharge in March 1969. Helping servicemen and -women, especially those who were wounded, continues to be a priority for Mr. Gatto to this day. Among the many charitable organizations he supports, Domenic Gatto maintains close ties to the Stephen Siller Children’s Foundation, which provides scholarships and other assistance to children whose parents died while serving in Iraq or Afghanistan.
